Sunday, Oct 6 – Fall Colours in the Madawaska Highlands

By the beginning of October, much of the Greater Ottawa Area is blessed with spectacular fall colours. Tourists from all across the planet come here to witness the annual spectacle. Take advantage of this wonderful natural phenomenon with a productive morning exploring landscapes throughout the Madawaska region. We’ll look for strong compositions along backroads, forest edges, rolling hills and open country. To enhance compositional impact, we will look for foreground and background subjects that complement the scenery. We’ll look for colourful scenes that include rolling hills, old buildings, rustic fences, or contrasting foliage. Throughout the morning, Nina and Tony will provide technical instruction while suggesting compositions. We’ll cover topics like depth of field, camera lens/focal length, exposure, and achieving maximum impact & aesthetic appeal. Although scenery is the priority, we will also look for wildlife. There should be raptors and songbirds migrating through the hills. Bring a variety of lenses including especially a wide angle and a short telephoto. Although not completely necessary, tripods, cable releases or monopods are welcome. NOTE: In case of bad weather or a delay in the peak of fall colours, we have a backup date of Sunday, Oct. 13.
